Madrasah principal arrested over Facebook status asking for Sayeedi's release

The principal of a madrasah in Chattogram has been arrested for posting a Facebook status seeking the release of convicted war criminalDelwar Hossain Sayeedi.

Sitakunda police arrested Nurul Kabir, principal of Zubaida Women's Madrasah in Sitakundamunicipality, late Monday night in a case filed under the ICT act.

Md Shamim Sheikh, inspector (investigation) of the Sitakunda police station, said that Kabir was sent to court on Tuesday.

On May 1, Kabir posted on Facebook, appealing to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to release Sayeedi during the month of Ramadan.

He later removed the post after the screenshot of the post spread through social media.

Later, Shihab Uddin, joint convener of Sitakundaupazila Chhatra League, filed a case against Kabir with Sitakunda Police Station.
