The formal charges were submitted to the registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today (24 December), and a hearing to consider taking cognisance of the charges is scheduled to be held the same day.
The other accused are former DMP joint commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty; former Wari zone deputy commissioner (DC) Md Iqbal Hossain, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Shakil Mohammad Shamim, Md Masudur Rahman Monir, Nahid Ferdous, former Jatrabari police station officer-in-charge Abul Hasan, Zakir Hossain, Md Wahidul Haque Mamun, Sazzad Uz Zaman, and Md Shahadat Ali. Sources said the remaining accused were also serving police officers at the time of the incident.
According to the prosecution, Imam Hasan Taim was killed by police gunfire on 20 July 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement. He had gone out with a friend to have tea and was later found dead in the Jatrabari area.
Taim's father, Md Moynal Hossain Bhuiyan, is a sub-inspector (SI) at the Rajarbagh Police Lines. After searching for some time, he found his son's body and called a senior officer. He said, "Sir, my son is dead. His chest has been riddled with bullets. Sir, my son is no more." He then asked, "Sir, how many bullets does it take to kill a person?"
