Kuwait-bound expats struggle to get corona-free certificates
“IEDCR only conduct tests if any symptom of coronavirus is found. We do not provide any health clearance certificate”
A day after Kuwait restricted entry to the passengers without health clearance certificates amid coronavirus outbreak, more than a hundred Kuwait-bound Bangladeshis thronged at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) today for certificates declaring them as free of coronavirus.
However, IEDCR Director Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora said that her organisation does not provide any clearance certificates on coronavirus.
"IEDCR only conduct tests if any symptom of coronavirus is found. We do not provide any health clearance certificate," Dr. Meerjady said during a press briefing at IEDCR office in the capital's Mohakhali area.

"Several embassies are sending people for health clearance certificates to us. We are requesting them through the media not to send anyone without discussing with IEDCR," she further added.
On March 4, Kuwait's civil aviation authority said passengers from 10 nations including Bangladesh, must produce certificates issued by the Kuwaiti embassy in their country saying they are coronavirus free.
Kuwaiti authorities recently instituted a spate of measures aimed at containing the spread of the virus, including quarantines and banning visits to prisons for two weeks.
