Kuet student drowns while bathing in campus pond

A student drowned while taking a bath in a pond at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) today (6 May).
The deceased was identified as Shantanu Karmakar, a student of the 23rd batch of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Kuet. His father Sukumar Chandra Karmakar is a resident of Raja Dewri in Old Dhaka.
Shantanu's classmates said he went missing after going down to bathe in the pond with friends. Students and staff immediately tried to rescue him but failed. Later, the fire service's diving unit arrived at the scene and recovered his unconscious body.

Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Abul Basar Mohammad Atiqur Rahman said after being rescued, he was given primary treatment at the Kuet Medical Centre.
"Later, when he was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. His body is currently at the hospital," he added.
