Khaleda Zia's condition 'extremely critical,' says Fakhrul, appeals for prayers
'Once again, we are urging the people of the entire nation to pray for her recovery,' says Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said party chief Begum Khaleda Zia's physical condition is "extremely critical" and has sought prayers for her recovery.
Speaking today (28 November) after Jumma prayers at a prayer session organised in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia's contribution to the democratic movement is undeniable and that she had struggled her entire life for democracy.
"She endured imprisonment and persecution. And in the end, she became seriously ill and had to be hospitalised. You know she again fell ill over the last few days and was admitted to Evercare Hospital," the BNP leader told the gathering.
He added, "Last night, doctors said her condition is extremely critical. That is why, on behalf of our party, we sought prayers after Jumma from people across the country for the recovery of the leader of democracy, the mother of democracy, our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia."
Fakhrul said, "Once again, we are urging the people of the entire nation to pray for her recovery."
Yesterday, BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said Khaleda Zia was being treated in the coronary care unit (CCU) of the hospital under intensive monitoring by medical board specialists, including local and foreign physicians.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Sunday night (23 November). She is under the care of Evercare specialist Professor Dr Md Shahabuddin Talukder.
Professor FM Siddiqui, a member of her medical board, later said the BNP chief had developed infections in her heart and lungs.
