Khaleda Zia showed path to democracy, NCP well-wisher of BNP: Nasiruddin Patwary
The Awami League is as responsible for Khaleda Zia’s current condition as the Jatiyo Party, he says
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has demonstrated how to walk the path of democracy, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) considers itself a well-wisher of the BNP, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary said today (1 December).
"Khaleda Zia has shown us how to walk the path of democracy. But if we follow the Indian prescription, we will get caught in our own trap. We are well-wishers of the BNP," he said while addressing a prayer event at the party's Banglamotor office in the capital, held to mark the release of Bangladeshi expatriates previously imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates.
The NCP leader urged the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami to adopt a unified stance regarding the Jatiyo Party, saying, "The Awami League is as responsible for Khaleda Zia's current condition as the Jatiyo Party."
Speaking on the upcoming national election, he reiterated his party's position, "We want the election to be centred on support for or opposition to reforms. But one group is attempting to frame it as a battle between supporters and opponents of Islam."
He added, "We urge them to abandon this misguided politics. NCP does not engage in religious divisiveness."
Nasiruddin said the country is facing a political crisis, citing remarks from senior politicians who claim the state's security has deteriorated. "We must clarify who is undermining security, internal actors or external forces," he said.
Referring to comments from the law ministry that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is free to return to Bangladesh, he said the authorities must provide an explanation regarding the security concerns surrounding the matter.
