The two teenagers who died in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a car on the Kalshi flyover in the capital's Pallabi area yesterday night (4 April) have been identified.

The victims were two friends, Tofazzal and Riyad, both 16 years old. Tofazzal was class nine student at BLF School in the Matikata area of Pallabi.  Riyad, on the other hand, was a student at a Hafezi Madrasa in Chandpur Sadar, said Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam of Pallabi Police Station.

The car involved in the crash was seized immediately after the incident. Its driver was arrested and later produced before the court, said Sub-Inspector Atiqur Rahman of Pallabi Police Station.

Quoting eyewitnesses, the OC said the two teenagers were riding on a motorcycle on the flyover when they collided with a private car coming from the opposite direction. The impact threw the pillion rider nearly 25 feet from the flyover onto the road below. Pedestrians rushed him to a hospital, while the motorcyclist, who fell on the flyover, also sustained critical injuries. However, both died from their injuries shortly after, the OC added.

According to Riyad's family, he had come to Dhaka on Thursday to visit Tofazzal's home and stayed there for the night. On the following evening, the two friends went out for a motorcycle ride, which tragically ended in the fatal accident.
