Dismembered body found in plastic drum near National Eidgah in Dhaka
The victim’s name is Md Ashraful Haque, 43. His residence was in Rangpur’s Badarganj upazila.
Police today (13 November) recovered a dismembered human body from a plastic drum near the main gate of the National Eidgah, adjacent to the High Court area.
The victim has been identified as Ashraful Haque, a vegetable trader from Rangpur. Police confirmed his identity through fingerprint records. He had come to Dhaka on 11 November for business purposes, police said.
Eyewitnesses reported that a man had earlier arrived in the area in a van carrying four plastic drums, leaving two at the site before driving away.
Later in the evening, passersby opened the drums and were horrified to find human remains inside, prompting them to alert law enforcement.
Shahbagh Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Mainul Islam Khan said the body was discovered around 6pm.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Division) Md Masud Alam said, two drums were recovered, of which one contained the body cut into pieces, while another was filled with rice.
Preliminary reports indicate that Ashraful left home, telling his family he was going to collect payments owed to him. He was involved in importing raw materials from India, including ginger, onions, and garlic, and regularly conducted business with traders in Dhaka and other regions of the country.
OC Khalid Mansur added that Ashraful's remains have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a formal probe, and police have cordoned off the area.
Ashraful's father is Md Abdur Rashid and his mother is Mosha Esra Khatun. His family home is in Gopalpur, Nayapara, Shyampur, under Badarganj police station in Rangpur district.
