Jubo League stages flash procession in Ctg with funeral shrouds tied around heads
Analysis of the footage suggests that around 70 to 80 leaders and activists took part in the procession
Leaders and activists of Jubo League, an associate body of the activities-banned Awami League, staged a flash procession in Chattogram's Agrabad commercial area after Jummah prayers today (5 June), with participants tying white cloth resembling funeral shrouds around their heads.
Confirming the matter, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Public Relations) Aminur Rashid said efforts were underway to arrest those involved.
Videos circulated on social media showed participants carrying banners and wearing white clothes tied around their heads.
The procession moved from the port area along Sheikh Mujib Road towards Agrabad intersection before gathering in front of the Power Development Board building and chanting various slogans.
The banners carried during the procession demanded justice for children who died from measles and punishment for those involved in child rape incidents. They protested against increases in electricity and gas prices.
Analysis of the footage suggests that around 70 to 80 leaders and activists took part in the procession.
This was the third public procession in Chattogram city this month involving the activities-banned Awami League and its associate organisations.
Earlier, similar flash processions were reported in the Anannya Residential Area on Wednesday and at the GEC intersection on Monday.
Police said at least 70 leaders and activists of the organisations concerned have been arrested in drives conducted following those incidents.
