Jahangirnagar University authorities have invited name proposals for four of its residential halls following a recent decision to rename them.

The decision was initially taken at a special meeting of the university syndicate held on 17 March 2025. In line with the resolution, a committee has been formed recently to consult with stakeholders and recommend appropriate new names for the four halls, two for male students and two for female students.

The halls currently under consideration for renaming are: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, Sheikh Hasina Hall, and Russel Hall.

To ensure an inclusive and participatory process, the committee has called upon all concerned stakeholders, including students, teachers, alumni, and well-wishers, to submit their proposed names by 17 June 2025.

Proposals can be sent to the official email address provided by the committee.

A member-secretary of the committee confirmed that all submitted names would be reviewed in consultation with relevant parties. Following this, the committee will submit its final recommendations to the university authorities for approval.

University officials stated that the renaming initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise and contextualise institutional heritage while reflecting the values of the university community.
