JMB member gets 22-year prison sentence in arms and explosive case

A Jessore tribunal has sentenced Shahidullah, a member of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), to 22 years in prison on Thursday.

Judge Mahbuda Khatun of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 gave the verdict.

Shahidullah is the son of late Tofazzal Hossain from Bagerhat's Mollarhat village.

Special public prosecutor M Idris Ali represented the state during the hearing.

Related sources said, on March 03, 2003, Abdul Kuddus and Moktar Hossain of Jhakra police camp detained Jahidul Islam Sumon and Shahidullah along with a motocycle.

When the detainees were bought back to the camp and searched, two locally made pistols, bullets, seven bombs and equipments for making bombs were found in their bags.

Abdul Kuddus filed a case under the arms and explosives law. The investigating officer submitted the charge sheet accusing the two.

However, one of the accused, Shahidullah, was a child aged 14 when he was arrested. So, charges against him were transferred to a separate court.

After a long recording of testimonies in the case, the court finally delivered the verdict on Thursday.

Shahidullah is currently in jail.
