Jhenaidah youths secure police jobs without bribery

For Tushar Ahmed of Dariapur village, the road to a police job was far from easy. After his father died in 2018 and his mother left, Tushar supported his younger brothers and grandmother.
Unable to find stable employment, he turned to farming, working on others' land to meet family expenses while also funding his own studies. Alongside this struggle, he repeatedly applied for a police job — and finally succeeded, filling out the recruitment form for just Tk120.
Tushar is among 25 youths from different upazilas of Jhenaidah who have been appointed as trainee recruit constables (TRC). The results were announced on Sunday night, sparking tears of joy among successful candidates who secured jobs without bribery, lobbying, or irregularities.
A police job, once regarded as a 'golden deer' often requiring significant bribes, is now accessible through merit. "We are overwhelmed with emotion," said a new recruit. "We never thought this day would come without lobbying or bribes."
According to the district police, 1,880 people applied for the constable post. Physical, written, and oral tests were held from 10 to 12 July, with 279 candidates clearing the physical test and 34 passing the written exam. Following oral assessments, 25 individuals were appointed, including one woman, while five others were placed on a waiting list.
Jhenaidah Superintendent of Police Manjur Morshed stated that the recruitment was conducted with "100% transparency" and based strictly on physical ability, talent, and skills.
He urged the new recruits to work with honesty, integrity, and humanity, stand beside the people, and uphold the positive reputation and public trust in the Bangladesh Police.
