How effective is China's 'fuel fortress' built to deal with the oil crisis?
China has been relatively stable in the face of the Middle East oil crisis, as it has long planned to become energy self-reliant under Xi Jinping. Renewable energy, electric vehicles, domestic oil production and large reserves have helped it weather the crisis. However, it still relies heavily on imports (about 70%) for oil, so the risks are not completely gone. In particular, important routes such as the Strait of Hormuz are still a big concern for it. Overall, China's success is the result of long-term planning and advance preparation.
