Shammo murder: Chhatra Dal locks DU academic, administrative buildings demanding whole-day mourning

Bangladesh Jatiyayabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and leftist parties have locked academic and administrative buildings of Dhaka University rejecting half holiday in mourning for the killing of Shahriar Alam Shammo and called a full-day mourning.
A group of leaders and activists of the parties locked the building about 12:30pm today (15 May).
First, they locked Arts, Social Science and Business Studies buildings. Later at 1:30pm the students and activists locked the Registrar building.
Earlier, DU authorities declared a half holiday today (15 May) in mourning of Shahriar Alam Shammo's killing. But JCD leaders and activists didn't accept it as they had demanded a whole-day mourning. They called for a full day strike.

Abidur Rahman Mishu, Literature and publication secretary of Surja Sen Hall JCD, said, they locked the buildings in demand of the resignation of the vice chancellor and the proctor, ensuring safety in campus and visible punishment of for Shammo's murderer.
Shammo, a student of the 2018–19 academic session of the Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University, also served as the Literary and Publication Secretary of Chhatra Dal's Sir AF Rahman Hall unit.
He was stabbed to death near Sunrawardy Udyan on 13 May allegedly over an altercation following a bike accident.
Earlier today, Jatiyatabadi Chhata Dal held a black badge programme at Dhaka University in protest against the killing of Chhatra Dal student leader Shahriar Alam Shammo and demanded the resignation of the vice chancellor and the proctor. The programme sparked students' anxiety over outsiders entering the DU campus.
Talking to protesters reveal that Chhatra Dal activists and leaders of various branches of the capital were present at the event.
An activist from Dhanmondi, Jashim, said, "We are here to demand justice for Shammo's murder. We want the resignation of DU VC and proctor."
However, another school student for Dhanmondi, Tamim, said, "I don't know the leaders and their demands. I came here as one of my senior brothers asked me to join."
Regarding entry of people, who are not students, into the DU campus students have expressed concern on social media.
Muktosen Mukter wrote, "At the invitation of Chhatra Dal, our campus has been taken over by street children from Dhaka city. With these street children, Chhatra Dal is demanding the resignation of our honorable vice-chancellor and proctor."
Sanuarul Islam Mazmul wrote on social media, "We want a campus free from outsiders, yet we demand the VC's resignation with those very outsiders!!"
