Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Rownak Jahan has been appointed as the first woman superintendent of police (SP) of Jashore district.
The announcement was made yesterday (4 March) in a notification signed by Md Mahbubur Rahman, deputy secretary (Police Branch-1) of the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Division.
The notification states Jashore's current SP, Md Ziauddin Ahmed, has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
However, he had already been withdrawn from his post on 17 February through a letter signed by Kazi Md Fazlul Karim, DIG (admin), Police Headquarters.
According to the Bangladesh Police website, Rownak Jahan will be the 51st SP of Jashore.
For the first time in Jashore's history, a woman has been appointed as the district's SP or administrative head.

Prior to her appointment, Additional Superintendent of Police (admin) Noor E Alam Siddiqui had been serving as the acting SP of Jashore since 17 February, following the withdrawal of former SP Ziauddin Ahmed.
