Jamaat slams Fakhrul's remarks on seat-sharing as 'false and vindictive'
Jamaat leader Mia Golam Porwar asks Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to present evidence before the nation from whom Jamaat demanded these seats.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar today (23 September) condemned BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for his recent statement regarding seat-sharing between the two parties, calling them "false, disrespectful and vindictive."
Fakhrul's remarks, saying Jamaat is putting pressure on the BNP over proportional representation for not giving it 30 seats, came in an interview he had given to the Kolkata-based daily Ei Samay.
In a statement, Porwar said Jamaat is taken aback that a senior politician like Fakhrul would make such completely "false, disrespectful and vindictive" statements about the party.
"If these remarks are indeed his, we are compelled to voice our protest and condemnation," he added.
At the same time, Porwar called on the BNP leader to present evidence before the nation from whom Jamaat had demanded these seats.
"If he fails to provide proof for his claims, we urge him to acknowledge the truth and, at the very least, apologise publicly for his statements."
He also urged Fakhrul to refrain from making such statements in the future.
