Jamaat open to talks with govt, EC on PR system: Taher
“Those who refuse to accept the July Charter will ultimately betray the July movement,” he added.
Jamaat-e-Islami is not opposed to discussions with the government and the Election Commission (EC) over proportional representation (PR) system in the national polls, the party's Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher said today (6 September).
Addressing a Jamaat conference at Munshirhat in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila, he also cautioned that if the upcoming election is not held on the basis of the July Charter, it will only repeat the cycle of past "failed" elections.
"Those who refuse to accept the July Charter will ultimately betray the July movement," he added.
The event was chaired by union Jamaat Ameer Maulana Jafar Ahmad. Cumilla South district Ameer Advocate Muhammad Shahjahan, upazila Ameer Mahfuzur Rahman, former upazila ameer VP Shahab Uddin, and upazila Secretary Muhammad Belal Hossain were also present among others.
