The Election Commission's responsibilities end with publishing the gazette after the election, the Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said today (4 June), when asked about the swearing-in issue of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the Dhaka South City Corporation.
"Our duties include everything from announcing the polls schedule to publishing the results in the gazette. Administering oaths is not within the jurisdiction of the EC," he said while talking to reporters after a meeting at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon.
"We believe the EC has fulfilled its constitutional obligations. It has completed its tasks as required," Sanaullah added.
