An Indonesian engineer was electrocuted while working at a power station of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) on the Dhaka University campus on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Toufique, 36. He used to reside in Narayanganj.

Civil Engineer Rasheduzzaman Russel said Toufique was pumping gas in a machine at the newly constructed power station near DU Shahidullah Hall playground.

Suddenly, he came in contact with a live electric wire around 10am, leaving him unconscious.

The engineer was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 10:37, Rasheduzzaman said.

Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
