ICT permitted to seize PBI evidence of Abu Sayed murder case

A Rangpur court today (14 March) allowed the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) to seize the evidence of the Abu Sayed murder case from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the agency investigating the case.
Judge Rashed Hossain of Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Cognizance Court passed the order yesterday following the application of the investigating officer of the ICT Ruhul Amin.
ICT Prosecutor Barrister SM Mainul Karim told journalists that two cases were filed in Rangpur in connection with the Abu Sayed murder case which were being investigated by Rangpur's Superintendent of Police ABM Jakir Hossain of the PBI.
Later, ICT filed a case in connection with the Abu Sayed Murder, and the investigating officer of the case applied to the court to seize the evidence from the PIB investigation officer.
Mainul said that the investigation team of the ICT previously visited Rangpur and recorded the testimony of the witnesses in the Abu Sayed murder case.
"It will be possible to submit the charge sheet of the case soon after conducting a forensic examination of the seized evidence," the prosecutor said.
Abu Sayed, an English department student of Begum Rokeya University, was shot dead in police firing on 16 July 2024 during the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the university.
His murder sparked the student movement across the country, which resulted in the fall of the Awami League regime on 5 August.
