Hindu priest assaulted inside temple premises in Rajshahi

A Hindu priest was assaulted allegedly by a local youth inside a temple premises in Rajshahi city this afternoon (13 December).
The incident took place at the Ponchoboti Crematorium and Temple.
Speaking to The Business Standard, the priest, Sagar Kumar Roy, said a local youth named Alif Ali entered the temple premises and demanded bamboo from the temple. "When I refused, an argument ensued. The youth slapped and punched me."
Regarding the matter, Boalia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam said, "The priest and the accused youth were previously acquainted. Legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is filed by the victim."
CCTV footage of the incident later surfaced showing that after the attack, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Kalyan's Rajshahi metropolitan unit President Achintya Kumar Biswas and General Secretary Ashok Saha visited the cremation ground.
They condemned the assault and said legal action would be pursued.
