High-level committee formed to ensure fair price of sacrificial animal hides, smooth Eid-ul-Adha management

The interim government has formed a high-level committee to ensure the fair pricing of sacrificial animal hides and smooth management of activities related to Eid-ul-Adha.

Headed by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, the committee was officially formed through a circular issued by the Cabinet Division today (13 May).

The committee includes the advisers on home affairs, industries, road transport and bridges, environment, local government, fisheries and livestock, religious affairs, and information and broadcasting, as well as chief adviser's special assistant (home ministry), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) chief, chief adviser's press secretary, and the secretary of the Ministry of Industries.

Additionally, representatives from NGOs, religious institutions, and the private sector will be nominated by the government to serve on the committee. The commerce secretary will serve as the member secretary of the committee.

The committee's mandate includes ensuring the proper collection and preservation of animal hides, guaranteeing an adequate supply of salt for preservation, setting fair prices for hides, and overseeing the efficient and smooth management of all sacrificial activities.

It is also tasked with protecting the interests of religious institutions regarding earnings from hide sales, issuing guidelines on the management of cattle markets, regulating animal transportation to prevent cruelty, and formulating action plans for rapid and proper waste management across the country, including at the Savar Leather Industrial Park.

The Ministry of Commerce will provide secretarial support to the committee, which also holds the authority to induct additional members as necessary.
