Preparations complete, over 2 lakh set to be vaccinated for measles in Kushtia

All preparations have been completed for the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign under the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in Kushtia, aiming to vaccinate more than 230,000 children.
The campaign will run from 20 April to 11 May, officials announced at a press conference held at the Civil Surgeon's Office in Kushtia today (16 April).
The campaign aims to vaccinate a total of 230,926 children aged between six months and five years across the district.
According to upazila-wise targets, Kushtia Sadar has a target of vaccinating 45,000 children, Daulatpur 47,613, Mirpur 33,893, Bheramara 24,691, Kumarkhali 38,843 and Khoksa 14,006.
In addition, under municipality-wise targets, 19,450 children will be vaccinated in Kushtia municipality, 2,686 in Bheramara municipality, and 4,544 in Kumarkhali municipality.
A total of 1,690 vaccination centres have been set up across the district, including six permanent and 1,684 temporary centres. Each centre will be staffed by one vaccinator and two volunteers, said health officials.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Mohammad Kamal Hossain highlighted the overall preparations and importance of the campaign. Medical Officer Dr Nasrin Akter presented an overview of the initiative.
538 suspected measles cases identified
The district health department reported that 538 suspected measles cases were identified in Kushtia between 15 March and 14 April.
Officials stressed that the vaccination campaign is crucial to controlling the situation and preventing further spread of the disease.
According to sources, vaccinations will be administered in phases at designated centres based on micro-plans prepared for each upazila and municipality. Guardians have been urged to bring their children to the nearest vaccination centres.
Health authorities expressed optimism that successful implementation of the campaign will play a significant role in preventing the spread of measles and rubella in the district.
