Measles outbreak: 5 more die in 24hrs, death toll rises to 648
At least 92 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year. A further 556 children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.
Five more children have died from measles and measles-like syndrome in the past 24 hours, raising the nationwide death toll to 648, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The deaths were recorded between 8am yesterday and 8am today (13 June), the latest DGHS health bulletin said.
During the same period, 733 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country, while 63 cases were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing.
According to DGHS data, at least 92 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year. A further 556 children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.
The health authorities reported that 10,248 measles cases were laboratory-confirmed between 15 March and 13 June.
Overall, 84,899 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide during the outbreak. Of them, 65,852 patients have been discharged after receiving treatment, according to the latest health bulletin.
