A doctor died of dengue on Sunday morning at a city hospital.

He was admitted to the hospital last week.

Dr Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, secretary general of the Foundation for Doctors Safety Rights and Responsibility (FDSR) told The Business Standard Dr Zahidur was first infected by Covid-19. Although he subsequently recovered, he died from complications caused by dengue fever, which led to cardiac arrests.

Dr Zahidur was a student of the 8th batch of Faridpur Medical College.  He was also the Central Advisor of the Medicine Club-Bangladesh.

Twelve new dengue cases were reported across the country in the last 24 hours as of Sunday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

30 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in the capital and three others in hospitals outside Dhaka, it also said.

Since January, 573 people have been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease. Among them, 539 have recovered.

Bangladesh witnessed a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalised. At that time, 179 people died of dengue and 101,037 others recovered, according to official figures.
