DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam orders intensifying mosquito eradication drives to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to conduct a 10-day special cleanliness drive beginning from Monday in all its wards to eradicate mosquitoes, as the number of dengue patients has increased recently.
The decision came from an emergency meeting held online on Thursday, with DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair, according to a press statement.
In line with the drive, mobile courts will also be conducted.

Mayor Atiqul Islam directed the officials concerned to intensify mosquito eradication activities in the vicinity of all hospitals in Dhaka North to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
The mayor also ordered strengthening mosquito eradication activities in the residing locations of the dengue patients after collecting their addresses from hospitals.
He said, "The city residents must be protected from mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases at any cost. So, we have imported fourth generation insecticides. Already, we've bought some modern equipment, while the procurement of more such equipment is in the process," read the statement.
According to the information of the government's health department, there are 12 dengue patients in the DNCC area at present. All of them are receiving treatment in five private hospitals in Dhaka North, it further read.
The Thursday's meeting was also informed that the urban health centres and maternity centres located in the DNCC area have sufficient stocks of free dengue testing kits, read the statement.
It is mentionable that three combing operations were conducted in June, July and August this year.
The information obtained during the operations has been stored in an app, and the application of mosquito repellent has been intensified in various neighbourhoods following the app information.
The fourth generation insecticide Novaluron, recently imported from the United Kingdom, is being applied in all these places.
Further, regular spraying of larvicideing (mosquito eggs and larvae killing insecticides) and adulticideing (flying mosquito killing insecticides) is being continued throughout the DNCC, read the release.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, Secretary Rabindra Shri Barua, Inspector General of Prisons and former Chief Health Officer of DNCC Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Amirul Islam, among others, were present at the event.
