Dengue: 5 more die, 1,162 hospitalised in 24 hours

The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen as five more people died and 1,162 others were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours leading up to this morning (2 November), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest figures, the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has risen to 283, while the number of recorded cases has reached 71,675.
Among the new fatalities, two were reported at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, one at Mugda Medical College Hospital, one at Kurmitola Medical College Hospital, and one at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Currently, 1,040 dengue patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Dhaka, while 2,992 others are being treated across the country.
DGHS data shows that 61.8% of the patients this year are male and 38.2% are female. Among the fatalities, 53.2% were men and 46.8% were women.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives, with a total of 101,214 cases and 100,040 recoveries reported nationwide.
