Another child dies with measles-pneumonia symptoms at CMCH
The number of children admitted with measles and pneumonia-like symptoms has increased to 49.
Another child died last night (1 April) after being admitted with symptoms of measles and pneumonia at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), raising the death toll from these complications to two in Chattogram.
The deceased child was identified as 10-month-old Safwan, from the Kutubdia area of Cox's Bazar.
Professor Mohammad Musa Miah, head of the Paediatric Department at CMCH, told The Business Standard that the child was transferred from the city's Parkview Hospital in an extremely critical state.
"Despite being promptly admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the child died around 9:30pm last night while undergoing treatment," he said.
With this latest fatality, the number of deaths linked to measles and pneumonia-like symptoms at CMCH has risen to two. Both deceased children were residents of Cox's Bazar.
The number of children admitted with measles and pneumonia-like symptoms has increased to 49. Among them, four remain in critical condition and are currently receiving treatment in the PICU.
Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, director of CMCH, said, "We are planning to equip Ward No. 8 specifically for these cases, which will provide the capacity to treat 60 to 70 children."
