2 more dengue deaths in Barishal, 108 new cases reported

Two more dengue patients have died in the last 24 hours at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, while 108 new cases have been detected in the Barishal Division.
This brings the total death toll to 26 from dengue in the division, with 3,672 people affected so far, confirmed by Dr Shyamal Krishna Das, divisional director of the Director General of health Services, Barishal.
One of the deceased, Azufo Begum, 45, from Surjamoni village in Bauphal, Patuakhali, was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on 10 October, and Kohinur Begum,40, from Mathbaria, Pirojpur, was admitted on 7 October.

Among the 26 dengue-related deaths in the division, 20 occurred at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, 2 in Barguna, 2 in Patuakhali, 1 in Bhola, and 1 in Pirojpur.
From 1 January to 11 October, a total of 3,672 people have been infected with dengue in the Barishal division.
The highest number of cases was reported in Barguna with 1,026, followed by 581 at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, 448 in other government hospitals in Barishal, 272 at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, 388 in other hospitals in Patuakhali, 357 in Bhola, 99 in Jhalokathi, and 501 in Pirojpur.
So far, 3,316 people have recovered and been discharged, while 330 patients remain hospitalized.
Dr Shyamal Krishna Das said, "All hospitals have been instructed to prioritise and provide prompt care for dengue patients."
He noted that dengue outbreaks typically rise during the monsoon season, and Barishal division is seeing an increase as part of this trend.
"Alongside medical treatment, public awareness is essential to preventing the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, which are responsible for dengue. Without greater public awareness, it will be difficult to reduce the spread of the disease," he added.
