2 more children die with measles symptoms in Sylhet
These deaths follow the loss of three other children who died with similar symptoms on 24 April
Two children died with measles symptoms while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital this morning (26 April).
With these latest fatalities, five children have died in the division over the last two days, bringing the total number of measles-related deaths in Sylhet to 11 so far this month.
Brigadier General Umar Rashed Munir, director of the hospital, confirmed that the two children passed away at 9am and 10am, respectively.
He noted that the deceased were suffering from various complications in addition to measles symptoms.
These deaths follow the loss of three other children who died with similar symptoms on Friday (24 April).
According to a report from the Office of the Director of Health of Sylhet, the victims from Friday included nine-month-old Humaira from the Jalalabad area, who died at Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
The other two were 10-month-old Arif and five-month-old Taufiq from Derai upazila in Sunamganj, both of whom were being treated at SOMCH.
Currently, some 190 patients with measles-like symptoms are admitted to various hospitals across Sylhet division.
Among them, 107 are receiving care at Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and 10 are at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, while the remainder are spread across other facilities.
Data from the Directorate General of Health Services reveal that a total of 80 lab-confirmed measles cases have been identified in the division between 1 January and 26 April this year.
