Hasnat calls for ‘Yes’ vote in referendum
He further said the referendum would pave the way to limiting the prime minister’s tenure to a maximum of two terms, curbing corruption, keeping loan defaulters out of parliament, and eliminating extortion from politics.
Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) southern region and the 11-party alliance candidate for the Cumilla-4 constituency, today (11 January) urged voters to ensure a victory for 'Yes' in the upcoming referendum.
Addressing a courtyard meeting at Chhaedpur Bazar in Barashalghar Union of Debidwar upazila, Hasnat said it would strengthen democracy and protect people's fundamental rights.
"A 'Yes' vote is essential to build a corruption-free and extortion-free Bangladesh," he said.
The NCP leader also called for an independent Election Commission to ensure fair elections and stressed the need for proper education and employment opportunities for the country's youth.
Hasnat said he did not rely on muscle power or intimidation, adding that his campaign was based on public support and goodwill. "We will win people's hearts with love. If necessary, we will beg for votes, which is more honourable than engaging in corruption," he said.
