Hasnat accuses police of facilitating illegal soil extraction from Gomti River
Hasnat said he visited several points along the Gomti River the previous night, but the excavators were informed in advance of his visit and no one attempted to extract soil.
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (south) and Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) MP Hasnat Abdullah has alleged that soil is being illegally extracted from the Gomti River by "managing" police officials.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a monthly law and order meeting held at the Debidwar Upazila Parishad UNO conference room in Cumilla today (25 February).
Hasnat claimed, "Soil grabbers inform the police before starting excavation, telling them the time they will extract soil. By the time the assistant commissioner [land] and the UNO reach the spot, the police alert the excavators, and no one is found at the site."
"I would say soil is being extracted from the Gomti River based on an understanding. Some members of the police station are involved," he added.
Hasnat further said he visited several points along the Gomti River the previous night, but the excavators were informed in advance of his visit and no one attempted to extract soil.
Directing the administration and relevant authorities to take strict action, Hasnat said, "I am making it clear that soil extraction must stop at all five identified spots in Debidwar. Not a single spade of soil should be cut at any of these locations."
"If even one spade of soil is extracted, legal action must be taken. Otherwise, I will assume you are allowing this to continue," he said, adding that the role of the police is crucial and visible action is necessary.
