Hadi murder: 2 placed on fresh remand for aiding prime suspect Faisal's alleged escape to India
According to the petition, preliminary information suggests the involvement of a man identified as Philip, believed to be the leader of a cross-border human trafficking network operating along the border
A Dhaka court has placed two individuals on a fresh five-day remand for allegedly assisting Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect accused in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, to flee to India through illegal routes.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order today (21 December), sending accused Sibion Dew and Sanjay Chisim, both described as members of an inter-district network, into further remand.
Police had earlier produced the accused before the court after the completion of a three-day remand and sought a further seven days of custodial interrogation. The remand petition was submitted by investigation officer of the case Faisal Ahmed, inspector of the Motijheel zonal team of the Detective Branch (DB).
According to the petition, preliminary information suggests the involvement of a man identified as Philip, believed to be the leader of a cross-border human trafficking network operating along the border.
The accused reportedly carried out the operation under his direction. Police said further interrogation was necessary to trace Philip's whereabouts, arrange his arrest, and determine whether others were involved in facilitating the escape of the prime suspect.
The petition also stated that investigators need to ascertain who contacted Philip in connection with the "killing mission" and whether additional accomplices were involved in the escape plan.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki and Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon represented the state during the hearing and argued in favour of granting the remand.
No defence lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused. After the hearing, the court granted five days' remand for each of the two accused.
Police arrested Sibion Dew and Sanjay Chisim from Haluaghat and Dhobaura areas of Mymensingh district on 17 December. The following day, a court placed them on a three-day remand.
