An alleged drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Mymensingh Detective Branch (DB) of police in Mymensingh Sadar early Saturday.

The deceased was Sajal Miah, 24, son of Arju Mia from Mymensingh city’s Kristapur area, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the DB police Shah Akand.

Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Anwar Hossain and Constable Shofikul Islam were also injured in the incident, according to the police.

They took primary treatments at Police Line Hospital in the city.

A team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Moddho Barera Nizam Nagar (Muktagachha Bypass) area around 1:30am on information that some drug peddlers were selling drugs there.

Sensing their presence, the alleged peddlers opened fire at them, ensuing the gunfight, the police claimed.

At one stage, all the ‘criminals’ managed to flee the scene, except Sajal, who was gunned down by the law enforcers.

Later, he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where duty doctors declared him dead.

Three knives and a hundred grams of heroin were also recovered from the scene.

There were six cases with Kotwali Model Police Station against Sajal, said the OC.

He was a drug peddler and a mugger, he claimed.
