Gulshan-Banani Sarbajanin Puja Foundation awards scholarships to 85 meritorious students
The Gulshan-Banani Sarbajanin Puja Foundation (GBSPF) today (27 February) awarded scholarships to 85 underprivileged meritorious students from across the country, reaffirming its commitment to promoting equity in higher education.
The scholarships were distributed at a ceremony held at 11am as part of the foundation's annual scholarship programme. The recipients are studying at Dhaka University and various public, private, medical and technical universities across the country, reads a press release.
This marks the fourth consecutive year of the initiative. The programme began with 48 students in its first year, increased to 74 in the second year and 81 in the third year. With this year's 85 recipients, the foundation has so far provided a total of 288 scholarships.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma attended the event as chief guest. Special guest Professor Debashis Pal, provost of Jagannath Hall at the University of Dhaka, was also present, along with former presidents and general secretaries of the foundation and the students' guardians.
In his address, Pranay Kumar Verma highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives in education, saying education unlocks the limitless potential of a nation's youth.
GBSPF President JL Bhowmik said the foundation's mission goes beyond cultural and religious activities, adding that supporting students in overcoming financial barriers is an investment in Bangladesh's future leadership and development.
The programme was organised under the leadership of the Scholarship Subcommittee Convener Subas Chandra Ghosh, and Member Secretary Chaitanya Kumar Dey Chayan.
