The government is working to promote tourism in the country, Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser AF Hassan Ariff said today (6 December).

"The government is working to promote tourism in the country. Tourism does not mean construction of big buildings, but connecting people from one place to another place," he said while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of an eight-day public awareness campaign at Shaheed Subhash Hall of Cox's Bazar Institute and Public Library.

The awareness campaign was launched in the district to keep Cox's Bazar's sea beach and town clean and prevent dengue and the use of single-use plastic.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin presided over the programme, organised by the Bangladesh Tourism Board and Cox's Bazar District Administration.

Hassan Ariff said he is hopeful that the government would be able to present Cox's Bazar as a clean city in the days to come.

Also speaking on the occasion, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan said training on tourism will be organised for journalists and tourism-related people in Cox's Bazar soon.

"There are various problems in different sectors. To solve these problems, we have to work together. We will discuss with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Tourism Board to take the tourism sector forward," she said.

Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer (Additional Secretary) Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah, Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar Tourist Police Al Asad Mahfuzul Islam and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yamin Hossain were present, among others, on the occasion.
