The government has said legal action will be taken against individuals filing false cases and harassing people with lawsuits.

In a notice today (14 October), the Ministry of Home Affairs said recently, there has been a rise in the filing of false cases, including murder charges, with the intent to extort, blackmail, and harass individuals.

"Filing such baseless lawsuits is a criminal offence under Bangladesh's current legal framework."

The notice also said law enforcement agencies have already been directed to take strict action against those involved in such malicious activities.

The ministry said those engaging in these unlawful acts have been issued a stern warning.

According to the notice, the public has been encouraged to report such incidents to the national emergency service '999' and notify law enforcement agencies to assist in taking necessary action.
