Govt to hand over 6.5 acres of Latif Bawani Jute Mill land to police
A 250-bed hospital, 50-seat medical college, and nursing institute will be set up on 4.8 acres in Kamalapur under a PPP, with United Enterprise investing Tk530 crore.

The government has decided to hand over 6.5 acres of state-owned land belonging to Latif Bawani Jute Mill in Dhaka's Demra to the Bangladesh Police.
The land will be used to establish the headquarters of the Tourist Police and River Police, as well as a logistics base for Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The decision was approved in principle at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Secretariat today (19 August).
According to meeting sources, the land is being transferred for Tk24.54 crore, which will come from the police's allocated budget.
Earlier, on 24 December 2018, the committee had approved the proposal for the sale of the land. However, the committee later directed that the unused land should be allocated for development or public welfare purposes instead of being sold.
Meanwhile, in the same meeting, approval was given for setting up a 250-bed specialised hospital, a 50-seat medical college, and a nursing institute at the 4.80-acre Railway Hospital area in Kamalapur under a public-private partnership (PPP).
Private firm United Enterprise and Co Ltd will invest Tk530 crore in the project.
Under the agreement already signed with the Ministry of Railways, the hospital, medical college, and nursing institute will remain under the company's management for 40 years (including the construction period).
After the term ends, the developed site along with fixtures, fittings, and equipment will be handed over to Bangladesh Railway.
