Govt grants special release to 5 convicted prisoners ahead of Eid
The convicts had been serving sentences in different cases.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has released five convicted prisoners who had served more than half of their sentences from various jails across the country.
The Department of Prisons confirmed the releases to the media today (15 March).
The freed prisoners are Akash Rishi Prokash Das from Chandpur Jail, Robiul Hossain from Gazipur District Jail, Jikarul Haque Jiku and Nuruzzaman from Rangpur Central Jail, and Abdul Karim from Cumilla Central Jail.
Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Development) Md Jannat-Ul Farhad said the convicts had been serving sentences in different cases.
In light of the holy Eid, the government decided to grant them special release, he said.
He added that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the release order through a gazette notification on 11 March.
Some prisoners have already been freed, and the remaining procedures are expected to be completed today.
