The government will form a national commission to identify those who were behind the brutal killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15 in 1971.

"It is necessary to form a high profile national commission involving with the responsible national personalities so that the real killers of this heinous murder case could be identified", Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said in a webinar on Monday in the city.

The long cherished demand of forming a national commission has already been progressed and formation of its outline also will be taken forward after normalisation of the current coronavirus situation, he told the online discussion.

Anisul Huq said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was the 'topmost beneficiaries' of Bangabandhu killing.

Participating in the discussion, Advocate Abdul Matin Khosru said, "We have to identify the 'masterminds' of the killers as the conspiracy of August 15 was not taken place in a day."

"Ziaur Rahman was the villain of the August 15 blue print", Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik said.

The programme was moderated by Awami League information and research secretary Selim Mahmud.
