Govt condemns killing of three Bangladeshis in Tripura

The Government of Bangladesh has strongly condemned the brutal beating and killing of three Bangladeshi citizens by a mob in India's Tripura state yesterday (16 October).
According to a press release issued today (17 October), the government described the incident as an unacceptable and grave violation of human rights and the rule of law.
Bangladesh govt expressed serious concern over the deplorable act and called upon the government of India to conduct an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation. It also urged India to take sincere efforts to prevent the recurrence of such inhumane incidents and ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.
Yesterday, three Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Pandit Mia, 45, Sajal Mia, 20, and Jewel Mia, 32, from Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj — were lynched and shot with arrows by locals in Karengichhara area of Tripura on suspicion of cattle theft, according to reports.
According to BGB sources, the three Bangladeshis had allegedly crossed into India two to three days earlier when local Indian residents attacked them over suspicion of cattle theft.
The Government of Bangladesh further emphasised that all individuals, irrespective of their nationality, are entitled to full protection of their human rights, regardless of which side of the border they may inadvertently find themselves in.
