Former Chhatra League leader Zubair ordered to be interrogated at jail gate
Zubair Hossain was arrested from the Indian border on 18 September
A Dhaka court has ordered a one-day interrogation of the banned Chhatra League's former Dhaka South unit general secretary Zubair Hossain at the jail gate in an attempted murder case filed at Kotwali Police Station centering the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam gave the order today (22 September).
Earlier, Zubair was produced before the court, where the investigating officer of the case, Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector Habib Faisal, sought a seven-day remand.
Defense lawyer Mehedi Hasan Merin opposed the remand plea and sought bail for the accused. After the hearing, the judge rejected both applications and ordered a one-day jail gate interrogation.
Previously, on 18 September, Zubair Hossain was arrested from the Indian border.
According to the case statement, during the July Uprising on 5 August last year, Shoaib Shahriar Sivan, 24, joined the protests in the Ray Saheb Bazar area under Kotwali Police Station. Around 1:30pm that day, he sustained serious injuries after the accused allegedly opened fire.
Later, Sivan received treatment at a hospital. Following the incident, his fellow protester, Irfan Ahmed, filed an attempted murder case at Kotwali Police Station.
