Election now inevitable, everyone hopes it will be timely, fair and participatory: Debapriya
The event is part of the Citizen's Platform for SDGs Bangladesh's pre-election initiative to draft a 'citizen manifesto.
Economist Debapriya Bhattacharya has remarked that an election has now become an inevitable matter, saying everyone expects that it will be held on time and be free, fair and participatory.
Speaking at the "Regional Consultation Meeting 2025" in Rajshahi today (15 November), organised by Citizen's Platform for SDGs Bangladesh, Debapriya said that people also hope that the election's outcome will advance Bangladesh's efforts toward transformation in the coming days.
Debapriya, a distinguished fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and convener of the platform, said although Bangladesh has a human rights commission law in place, the formation of the commission during the interim government's tenure remains uncertain.
The event began at around 11:30am in the hallroom of the BRAC Learning Centre in Paba upazila. Debapriya chaired the session and presented the keynote.
The consultation is part of the Citizen's Platform for SDGs Bangladesh's pre-election initiative to draft a "citizen manifesto".
Professor Mostafizur Rahman, also a distinguished fellow at the CPD and a core group member of the platform, was scheduled to deliver the concluding remarks at the event.
Organisers said the manifesto aims to amplify the voices of marginalised groups and ensure their active participation in election discussions.
Participants included citizens from greater Rajshahi, teachers, researchers, local political representatives, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and members of disadvantaged communities.
