Focus will be on work, not premature comments: Amir Khasru
When asked about upcoming plans, the finance and planning minister reiterated that he prioritises action over rhetoric.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today (22 February) said that his priority would be to focus on work rather than making premature statements.
"We want to talk less and work more. Only two days have passed since I took charge. I have just come to the ministry today. I will review everything first and then speak. We believe in work," he told journalists at the Planning Ministry in Agargaon on his first day in office.
When asked about upcoming plans, the minister reiterated that he prioritises action over rhetoric.
"I speak after taking time. I will sit with my officials, understand everything and then speak. I want to provide you with objective information," he said.
He added that the media would be informed in due course, noting that although he is press-friendly, he prefers to review matters thoroughly before making comments.
"I will first speak with everyone and review the issues. I have just arrived, so let me settle down and consult with all concerned. Then it will be easier to discuss matters in detail. We do not want to say anything without objective information," he said.
The minister also said he feels comfortable speaking briefly, as it makes it easier for journalists to understand.
"I have just joined, and Inshallah we are starting work. All matters will be communicated in due course," he added.
When secretaries of the Planning Ministry and Planning Commission greeted him with flowers, the minister urged them to move away from such practices.
"Let us move away from the culture of ceremonial greetings. Now is the time to work. There have been enough of such formalities. We must now focus on our responsibilities," he said.
National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, Planning Division Secretary SM Shakil Akhter and others were present.
