Hundreds of fishermen in Laxmipur and Noakhali districts are all smiles for optimum hilsa catches from Meghna river during the last couple of days.

Fishing ghats of two coastal districts are now abuzz with the presence of buyers and sellers, where Hilsa is selling at different prices, depending on its size. A big one is selling between Tk1000 to Tk1500 per piece, a middle one between Tk700 to Tk800, and a small one between Tk450 to Tk500.

While visiting Tomuruddin and Nalchera ghats in Hatiya upazila and Alexander ghat under Ramgati in Laxmipur, this correspondent saw that the popular fishes were being loaded into small boats for supplying to fish landing stations.
More than 20,000 fishermen were also found getting ready to go for fishing in the river.
“With good hilsa catches, we are now trying to recover our losses we suffered during the ban period”, said fisherman Abu Bokkar at Char Alexander.
When contacted, Noakhali District Fisheries Officer Dr Abdul Motalab said, fishermen are getting the ultimate benefit of saving the mother hilsa. They are now very happy over the amount of fish netted from the river, he added.
