First Election Officers’ Conference begins at EC
BECOA Convener Mohammad Monir Hossain said more than 800 first-class officers from across the country are attending the event

The first-ever Election Officers' Conference with central and field officials of the Election Commission began today (27 September).
The conference started this morning at around 11am at the Nirbachan Bhaban auditorium in Agargaon, with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, four election commissioners, and the EC secretary in attendance.
It was organised by the Bangladesh Election Commission Officers' Association (BECOA) after the government approved amending the law to introduce an Election Commission Service for EC officials.
BECOA Convener Mohammad Monir Hossain said more than 800 first-class officers from across the country are attending the event.
"This conference is being held for the first time at the initiative of the association. Officials will present their issues and also receive guidance from the EC ahead of the election," he said.
"Officials have been providing NID services even with manpower shortages as voters increased by 1.5 times, but staff did not grow accordingly. The EC is now working to modernise offices and server stations and to build skilled manpower," Monir added.
Monir further added, "We want the responsibility of returning officers during the national election to be given to us. We hope the EC will work on this issue."
Ahead of the next parliamentary election, the conference serves as a platform for officials to present their demands and receive election preparation guidelines.
The EC secretariat, 10 regional and district offices, more than 500 upazila and thana offices and the NID wing have over 6,000 employees, including more than 800 first-class officers.
