Fire guts over 50 shops in Narsingdi's Madhabdi

More than 50 shops, including 10 jewellery outlets, were gutted in a devastating fire at Muripatti of Madhabdi Bazar in Narsingdi district this morning (4 July).
Witnesses said the fire erupted from one of the shops around 5am and spread fast, engulfing adjacent shops within a short time.
Seeing this, an announcement from Madhabdi's central mosque was made urging locals to come forward to douse the flame.
On information, five firefighting units from Madhabdi, Narsingdi Sadar and Palash upazila stations rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after around four hours of frantic efforts.
The witnesses also said the fire caused damage to large parts of the market within minutes, and despite firefighters' continued efforts, it took around two hours to bring it under control.
Traders assumed that more than 50 shops were gutted, including at least 10 jewellery shops. The total financial loss is believed to be in the range of several crores of taka.
Many traders suspect that the fire originated from one of the gold shops, though the exact source and cause have yet to be confirmed.
Madhabdi Fire Service Station Officer Rayhan Ahmed told UNB that fire service personnel from multiple units managed to douse the flames by 9am, with no casualties.
He added that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and further details will be provided upon completion of the inquiry.
