Fire guts jhut warehouse, dozens of shops in Gazipur
Seven units of Fire Service brought the fire under control after one and a half hours

A fire has gutted a warehouse of jhut (readymade garment waste and scraps) and dozens of shops in the Tongi Mill Gate area of Gazipur city.
The fire was first reported at around 5:30am today (14 February), said Shahin Alam, senior officer of the Tongi fire service station. It is suspected the fire started at the jhut warehouse, he said.
Initially, three firefighting units from the Tongi station reached the scene to fight the fire and were later joined by four more units from the Uttara station as the fire intensified. The seven firefighting units worked for about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control at around 7:05am.

However, by then, at least 30 establishments, including the jhut warehouse, shops of raw materials, convenience stores, and paint warehouses, were completely gutted, said Shahin. No casualties have been reported.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage will be determined after an investigation, he said.
