Fire at DU's Bijoy Ekattor Hall completely doused after 30 minutes
The university’s Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed told TBS that the fire originated from a cylinder explosion at the shop. “No casualties were reported,” he confirmed.
A fire that erupted at a shop behind Jamuna Bhaban's extension area of Dhaka University's Bijoy Ekattor Hall at 6pm today (24 November) was extinguished within 30 minutes through the efforts of Fire Service and Civil Defence's four units.
Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at the Fire Service control room, said that they received the alert at 6:13pm.
"Upon receiving the information, four units from Palashi and Siddik Bazar stations were dispatched. The fire was brought under control at 6:25pm," he said.
The blaze was completely doused at 6.30pm, according to the fire service.

Nazmul Hasan, social welfare secretary of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, said the fire started when a gas cylinder caught fire during cooking. "The flames intensified quickly. Some food items and other goods were burnt, but no one was injured," he said.
He added that the fire service teams successfully doused the blaze and took away the exploded cylinder for inspection.
