Fire at BAT warehouse in Ashulia extinguished after over 4 hours
Locals noticed smoke coming from the warehouse at around 7am and informed warehouse staff and the fire service. Two units from the Zirabo Modern Fire Service and Civil Defence Station were initially dispatched to the scene.
A fire that broke out at a British American Tobacco (BAT) warehouse in the Nolam area of Ashulia, Savar, this morning (5 August) was brought under control after nearly four and a half hours of firefighting efforts, officials said.
Locals noticed smoke coming from the warehouse at around 7am and informed warehouse staff and the fire service. Two units from the Zirabo Modern Fire Service and Civil Defence Station were initially dispatched to the scene.
As the fire intensified, four additional units joined the operation, including two from the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) Fire Service. A unit from the Dhamrai Fire Service Station also reached the scene but returned after the fire began to subside. Members of the Industrial Police also assisted in the firefighting operation.

Pranab Chowdhury, senior station officer of the DEPZ Fire Service, said six units worked together to bring the fire under control at around 11:45am.
"The warehouse contained tobacco. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined following an investigation," he said.
